The Worcester County District Attorney confirmed the identity of the skier, who was found unconscious on March 20 on a cutting edge trail at Wachusett Mountain ski area.

The man has been identified as John Lapato, a 67-year-old resident of Shrewsbury.

According to reports, Lapato was skiing when he crashed into a tree and was found by a passing skier who alerted authorities.

Wachusett’s ski patrols arrived on the scene and administered first aid on the mountain, but Lapato was pronounced dead when they reached the bottom.

The tragic incident has left the Wachusett Mountain community in mourning, with officials extending condolences to Lapato’s family and friends.
