The mystery series “1899” will not get a 2nd season. But that doesn’t mean that the collaboration between Netflix and series makers duo Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar is over! Her next project: “Something Is Killing The Children”.
Netflix
Does the song “Something Is Killing The Children” sound familiar? Maybe because you’ve heard of the horror comic series with that title. Or maybe because Netflix has been working on a film adaptation of this comic for some time – at an earlier date, namely under the direction of “Haunted Hill House” creator Mike Flanagan. He’s now off the project, but now Deadline has announced an exclusive that those responsible for the Netflix mega hit ‘Dark’ took over at ‘Something is killing the kids” to take over.
We are of course talking about Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese. After “Dark”, the two also produced the lavish mystery series “1899” for Netflix, which, unlike “Dark”, did not end well. Netflix canceled the series after just one season, leaving fans with unanswered questions about the fate of Eyk Larsen (Andreas Pietschmann) and Maura Franklin (Emily Beecham).
“Something Is Killing The Children” – namely monsters…
But Netflix wants to continue working with Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese and has extended the contract according to the deadline – and then the duo goes all out on fantasy horror for the streaming giant, as Something Is Killing The Children is about child-eating monsters…
In the comic adaptation, more and more children disappear from the town of Archer’s Peak. The situation seems hopeless, as hardly any of the children return – the few who do tell of horrific creatures living in the shadows. No one really believes the kids. But then a mysterious stranger comes to town who knows full well that the little ones speak the truth and wants to face the threat. Because if there’s one thing Erica Slaughter can do, it’s kill monsters.
“Something Is Killing The Children Vol. 1” on Amazon*
It is not yet known who will star in “Something Is Killing The Children” or when the release will take place Netflix is planned. If the series proves to be a success for Netflix, the streaming service could fall back on even more material that could be turned into a movie: as there’s already a comic for James Tynion IV’s “Something Is Killing The Children” and Werther Dell’Edera spin – off series titled House Of Slaughter.
Netflix is renewing the brutal Viking series for another season – that’s why fans are still wondering
