Deputies said the fentanyl sold led Alexis to a fatal overdose. 23-year-old Alexis Joy Sather of Marathon sold the drug to 53-year-old Amanda Roberts of Grassy Key.

Roberts was unexpectedly found dead in her home on September 2, 2022.

Her dead body was found around 6:30 p.m. Sather received a brief 47-second phone call from a friend about her product’s toxic side effects.

Within a day, Sather made many attempts to contact Roberts, texting and calling her numerous times.

What made the case against Alexis stronger than ever was the evidence of drug use and abuse at the scene of death.

The medical examiner’s office conducted an examination of the deceased and concluded that her tragic death was related to an overdose of diazepam and fentanyl.

After discovering Roberts’ cause of death, authorities launched an investigation into the sale and purchase of drugs from which she had died.

Authorities discovered that Amanda Roberts bought the deadly fentanyl from Alexis Joy Sather.

It was fairly easy for law enforcement to locate Sather, as she was already behind bars on other drug-related charges.

She was charged with the death of Amanda Roberts on March 14, 2023. This horrific incident took place in Monroe County.

The sheriff’s office said this is the third time in the past year that investigators have arrested a drug dealer in connection with a death from narcotics sales.

“I hope this message is very clear; stop selling this poison in our community, it is ruining lives and killing people,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “If you sell these drugs and someone dies, we will file murder charges against you.”

The Special Operations and Major Crimes Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office, the Attorney General’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration worked together on this case.

The suspect was first detained for violating her parole on September 21, 2022 after police found 2.9 grams of fentanyl on her as she walked across the United States 1 on Grassy Key.

Drug abuse has resulted in the loss of many lives, young and old. 106,699 overdose deaths were reported in the US in 2021.

As long as drug buying and selling continues, the deadly side effects of drug use, abuse, and overdose will be difficult to manage.

People who sell drugs should have a thorough understanding of the consequences that can result from drug use. A simple mistake or slight change in the composition of a drug can cost someone’s life in minutes.
