This was until she made her breakthrough with a recurring role in the 1980s television series Texas, in which she starred from 1980 to 1981.

She then expanded her portfolio with films like The Last Married Couple In America (1980), Witchery (1988), and Ghost Town (1988). The actress was born on February 11, 1956, as the daughter of Arthur and Mary Hickland in Faut Lauderdale, Florida. Catherine’s mother Mary worked as a dental ceramist while her father Arthur was a dentist. She grew up with two siblings, a brother, and a sister. Catherine completed her high school education at Fort Lauderdale High School. After graduating in 1974, she went on to study at Florida Atlantic University, but her time there did not last. After two years, she left school to work as a flight attendant for what was then National Airlines. Six months after her employment, she was involved in shooting a commercial for the airline. After she had tried her hand at acting in a few day dramas, she finally played in the big league with her role in Texas. Here she played the role of Dr. Courtney Marshall from 1980 to 1981. Three years later she was Julie Clegg McCandless in the soap opera Capitol on CBS, a role she played from 1984 to 1987.
