Mine collapse video in China showed an avalanche of stones burying miners along with heavy machinery and equipment.

According to news outlets from China, at least five miners have been confirmed to have lost their lives in a mine collapse incident and 48 are still missing.

The coal mine collapse incident occurred in northern China on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

The deadly incident occurred in the early afternoon after a mine in Inner Mongolia’s Alxa League collapsed, trapping dozens under the landslide.

After several hours, however, the rescue mission was suspended by a second or third landslide until the next day.

Later the same day, Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered immediate rescue and search efforts.

Xi Jinping said: “We must do everything we can to rescue the missing persons and treat the injured.”

China’s Xinhua News Agency reported that more than 900 rescuers, medical personnel and heavy machinery had been deployed to help search for the missing persons.

Video of the landslide was captured by a security camera distributed by Chinese state media. The video available on Youtube has different angles shot by the employees present there.

The footage shows a massive avalanche of rocks, rubble and dirt descending the mountain, burying various equipment and trucks underneath.

A hospitalized miner described the incident on Thursday, according to a news outlet from China.

“I had just started work at 1:15 pm when I realized that stones were falling from the mountain. I saw that the situation was getting more and more serious and an evacuation was organized, but it was too late, the mountain just collapsed.”

Wei Zhiguo, who led the rescue operations, told news outlets that the rescue operation was orderly and tense.

The reason for the coal mine collapse incident is still under investigation.

Inner Mongolia Coal Industry Co., the company that operated the mine, has not released a statement about the collapse.

However, this is not China’s first deadly mine collapse incident. The first such incident occurred in 1942, in which an explosion killed 1,549 miners, making it the worst and deadliest disaster in coal mining history.
