Colchester Police have released the names of the two people killed in what is being investigated as a murder-suicide that took place on the night of Wednesday 1 March 2023.

The following day, Thursday afternoon, Colchester Police identified the victims as 37-year-old Michael Bergeron and 37-year-old Melissa Bergon, both Colchester residents.

At around 9:43 p.m. on Wednesday, police acted on a report of a gunshot at the Wellesley Condo Complex on the 200 block of Holy Cross Road

Police said the primary outcome indicated that Melissa Bergeron shot Michael Bergeron before turning the gun on herself. Both victims were married to each other.

According to investigators, a child was also in the apartment during the incident.

However, the child was handed over to their relatives for better care. Authorities said they rushed to the crime scene and went to neighbors for help, who were the ones who reported the scene to 911. A gun was later found at the scene.

Colchester Police Chief Douglas Allen said the couple had no domestic violence records.

The police expect the investigation to continue until Friday, March 3, 2023.

A news outlet reported that one of their crime reporters saw law enforcement officers going in and out of the apartment and that crime tape had been placed around it.
