A mobile app can make life better, but it can also do the exact opposite. That’s what a group of teenagers are about to discover in British horror thriller series Red Rose, premiering today on Netflix.
High school student Rochelle Mason (Isis Hainsworth) and her gang are obsessed with their smartphones – as are probably most teenagers. After all, you can do a lot of practical things with your mobile phone, but you can also just kill time, for example with games apps. In a festive mood because they have just graduated and have a supposedly carefree summer ahead of them, Rochelle downloads the “Red Rose” dare app – not knowing it will ruin them all.
The BBC series Red Rose, which has already aired in the UK, is now rolling out internationally on Netflix – and will also be coming to the streaming service in Germany on February 15, 2023. The first season consists of eight episodes that appear on Netflix in one fell swoop.
“Red Rose”: When Your Phone Takes Control…
After Rochelle became enthralled by her new app, she increasingly distanced herself from her friends – and fell for the program on her mobile phone, which constantly imposed new tasks on her, but also disrupted her life. The app terrorizes the young woman with gruesome images and begins sending messages to her friends on behalf of Rochelle – which then leads to an argument.
Nevertheless, more and more young people are starting to play the mobile game. But Red Rose increasingly threatens with dangerous consequences if the children do not meet the requirements of the app. And soon cyber-terror will be its first fatality…
As creators of the series, Michael and Paul Clarkson are behind “Red Rose”, who have already gained experience in Netflix horror as authors and co-producers of the hit horror series “Haunted Bly Manor”. Other actors include Amelia Clarkson, Natalie Blair and Ali Khan.
So far, only four reviews of “Red Rose” have made it to the Metacritic review aggregator site, but they are mostly positive – The series was rated 80/100 three times and 60/100 once. Reviews not only praise the cast and captivating story, but also say, “Be warned, you’ll never look at your phone the way you did before”…
You should absolutely stream what is probably the nastiest animated movie ever – there should even be a sequel 8 years later
