Dana Bash Bio

She was born on June 15, 1971, in Manhattan as Dana Ruth Schwartz. Her mother, Francie Schwartz, was a full-time mother, but after her children left home she returned to college and earned a master’s degree in Jewish Studies. She later worked as an educator in Jewish Studies.

Dana’s father Stuart Schwartz worked as a producer for ABC News before he retired. Due to the nature of her father’s work, the family moved several times and lived in New Jersey, Washington, and New York. However, Dana Bash is a self-proclaimed girl from New Jersey.

She received her high school education at Pascack Hills High School in Montvale, New Jersey. She graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in political communication from George Washington University.

Dana Bash is currently CNN’s chief political correspondent. However, it has taken her several years of hard work and dedication to reach this peak. She joined CNN in 1993 and has worked her way through all ranks to get to where she is today.

Due to her father’s work as a news producer, Dana Bash developed a keen interest in politics and media early on. Therefore, while still a student, she looked for internship opportunities at various television stations. As a student, she completed an internship at a number of news channels, including NBC and CBS.

After graduation, Bash landed a paid intern position at the band library of CNN’s Washington office. She was eventually promoted to Associate Producer and later was given the role of a news anchor. During this time she volunteered overtime on weekends to gain more expertise.

As a political correspondent, she covered the 2000 presidential primary and the 2002 midterm elections, as well as participating in the network’s coverage of the 2004 presidential campaign and the 2006 midterm elections.

As CNN’s congressional correspondent, Dana Bash has received the Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress Award three times from the National Press Foundation. In March 2006, she was named CNN’s chief congressional correspondent.

In 2008, she was given another career-changing role as a member of CNN’s White House correspondent team. Along with other members of the CNN team, Bash received the Peabody Award for her brilliant coverage of the historic 2008 U.S. presidential campaign. Bash also played a key role in CNN’s coverage of the 2012 U.S. elections. She also served as the lead reporter and co-host of CNN’s coverage of the 2016 U.S. presidential election, which is labeled America’s Choice 2016.

Dana Bash was married to former CIA executive Jeremy Bash. They were married in 1998, but after 9 years the union broke up. Their divorce was finalized in 2007, and they gave “incomprehension” as the reason for the separation. Dana Bash, however, kept the last name of her former husband. They had no children together.

One year after the divorce, Bash found love again. In 2008 she married her colleague CNN star John King. King was brought up Roman Catholic but changed to Judaism before they made the covenant for life. In 2011 the couple had a child together. Unfortunately, their relationship broke up the following year. Their divorce was finalized in 2012.

Dana Bash was also connected with the L.A.-based Hollywood actor Spencer Garrett. The relationship started in 2013 and the couple seems to be quite serious. However, they still have to take their romance to the next level.

Dana Bash has one child, a son named Jonah Frank King. He was named “Jonah Frank” in honor of his father’s mother, Joan King, and his mother’s grandfather, Frank Weinman. He was born on June 28, 2011. The child’s father is John King, Bash’s former husband. Although his parents are divorced, they have continued to efficiently fulfill their parental role in his life.
