Donna Brazile is a renowned American political analyst, strategist, adjunct professor, and celebrated author. She served as interim chair of the Democratic National Committee from July 2016 to February 2017. Interestingly, Donna Brazile is the first African-American woman to lead a major presidential campaign in the United States. In 2000, she served as campaign manager for the Democrat Al Gore, in 1988 for Dick Gephardt, and in 1984 for Jesse Jackson, to name a few.

In addition to her political career, Brazile has worked as a political commentator and analyst for CNN and as an author and columnist for Ms. Magazine and Roll Call Magazine. Donna Brazile Bio

She was born on December 15, 195.9, and was named Donna Lease Brazile in New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States. She is the third of nine children of African-American parents Lionel Joseph Brazile and his wife Jean Marie. Brazile developed a keen interest in politics at a very young age; she was inspired by a local political candidate who promised to build a playground in her neighborhood. Raised to realize her dreams, Brazile is a beneficiary of the TRIO Upward Bound Program during her high school years. She then earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Louisiana State University.

After graduation, Brazile worked with various advocacy groups in Washington, D.C., and was among those who worked on the successful campaign to make Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday a national holiday. She also worked as a volunteer during Jimmy Carter’s presidential campaign in 1976 and 1980.

Political Career

As we have already mentioned, Donna Brazile has worked as a political strategist in several presidential campaigns for Democratic candidates. She served as campaign manager for Jesse Jackson and Walter Mondale in 1984. Later, she served as deputy field manager during Governor Michael Dukakis’ 1988 election campaign. In the 1990s she was Chief of Staff and Press Secretary to Congressional Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton in Washington, D.C. Donna worked extensively as a consultant during Bill Clinton’s 1992 and 1996 presidential campaign. She was promoted to deputy campaign manager in 1999 and finally to campaign manager for Al Gore’s presidential campaign in 2000.

After her impressive achievements over the years, Brazile was appointed delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 2008, where Barack Obama appeared as the Democratic presidential candidate. Donna led the DNC to a successful transition between outgoing Chairman Senator Tim Kaine and his successor Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and after the transition, she took over as Vice Chairman. Following Schultz’s resignation, she also served as interim chairperson for the DNC in 2016 until she resigned in February 2017.

Apart from politics, Donna Brazile has worked as a political analyst and commentator for CNN. She has appeared on popular CNN programs such as The Situation Room, American Morning, New Day, CNN Tonight with Don Lemon, and as a panelist in Anderson Cooper’s Election Night Coverage. Similarly, she has worked as a staffer at ABC News and in the political corner of NPR. She has also worked as a guest author for Ms. Magazine and Roll Call Magazine. Brazile wrote a book entitled Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-Ins and Breakdowns that Put Donald Trump in the White House. It was published in November 2017.

Brazile has also made guest appearances in the CBS drama The Good Wife and the Netflix political thriller House of Cards. She is also a member of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

Why Was She Fired From CNN?

During the campaign for the 2016 presidential election between Hillary Clinton and President Donald Trump; Brazile, who was an independent election panelist for CNN, revealed important information that raised several eyebrows and eventually led to her losing her job. She forwarded questions for debate to Hillary Clinton’s communications director. In addition, after a series of investigations, Wikileaks revealed that Brazile had been in constant communication with Clinton’s communications director, Jennifer Palmieri.

In October 2016, CNN President Jeff Zucker called the act unethical and disgusting but added that the station had accepted Brazil’s formal resignation. The following year, Donna Brazile admitted that she had forwarded the questions of the 2016 Debate to Clinton’s campaign communications director. The details of the email saga were included in her book, which she published later in 2017.
