It has been streaming on RTL+ for several months and today, Wednesday, the “CSI” revival “CSI: Vegas” also starts on free TV on Vox. Original stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox also join the cast, but only in Season 1.

15 seasons, three spin-offs, countless awards and guest director Quentin Tarantino, “CSI: On the Trail of the Criminals” was an absolute TV phenomenon that had a decisive impact on the modern crime series landscape. However, after the fourth “CSI” series “CSI: Cyber” was canceled in early 2016 after just two seasons, the franchise finally seemed to have come to an end (for comparison, the original series had a whopping 15 seasons, “CSI: Miami” and “CSI: NY” at still proud 10 and 9 respectively).

But just in time for the 20th anniversary of the start of “CSI” in 2020, there was a new sign of life – and what a sign! So there shouldn’t just be an offshoot, but directly linked to the first and most popular series with a revival including the return of the original cast. And indeed, these initially vague plans paid off in 2021 – although the result, dubbed simply “CSI: Vegas”, ended up being something between a revival and a new series…

Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle make a comeback…

“CSI: Vegas” started in the US at the end of 2021, the German premiere followed a year later on streaming service RTL + * (where the series can still be heard). And now the comeback of “CSI” is finally coming to free TV: Starting today, February 22, 2023, Vox will be showing the new “CSI: Vegas” in double episodes every Wednesday starting at 8:15 p.m. Starting tomorrow, February 23, the first season will also be available on DVD at retailers like Amazon:

Fans of the first hour can now indeed look forward to one Reunion with the original stars William Pietersen And Joria Fox who, as a forensic specialist duo, support a new CSI team in Las Vegas. And CSI veterans Paul Guilfoyle and Wallace Langham are also back for guest appearances like Jim Brass and David Hodges. But even though Petersen and Fox are actually involved in bigger parts, the focus is more on the new faces by their side – which is also evident as the series progresses…

… but only for one season

“CSI: Vegas” has a hint of bitterness for long-standing “CSI” fans, at least in the long run, as said character comebacks are only temporary. William Petersen and Jorja Fox, as well as Paul Guilfoyle and Wallace Langham are only in the first season of “CSI: Vegas”.

Originally, the revival as a completed miniseries was supposed to only consist of this one season. In the end, however, the series was so well received that not only was a second season produced, but now season 3 has also been greenlit – both without Petersen and Co..

However, viewers will not have to do without support from the original series in the future, mix in season 2 but as a replacement Margaret Helgenberger as Catherine Willows and Eric Szmanda as Greg Sanders with – even if it would have been nice to see all the old companions side by side in the investigative work. But before we have to say goodbye to William Petersen and Jorja Fox and the 21-part second season has to do without them, we can now look forward to their TV reunion of at least ten episodes.
