Anyone who loves Jason Statham’s movies for their uncompromising action should give Mechanic: Resurrection a wide berth tonight. RTL Zwei only shows the film by “Die Welle” maker Dennis Gansel in shortened form.

Active veteran Simon West (“Con Air”) attempted to recreate a classic in 2011 – with moderate success. The remake “The Mechanic” met with limited enthusiasm from fans of the 1972 original (“Kalter Hauch” starring Charles Bronson), received mixed reviews from the trade press and took just enough to put Millenium Films in the black with the film. None of this exactly cried out for a sequel, though. And yet, five years later, protagonist Jason Statham returned as assassin Arthur Bishop in Mechanic: Resurrection. Credited to a German filmmaker who took the opportunity to make his Hollywood debut.

Statham, who was ready for a title role again after numerous supporting roles in films such as “Fast & Furious 7”, “The Expendables 3” and “Spy – Susan Cooper undercover”, entrusted Dennis Gansel. The Hanoverian, known at the time for films such as ‘Girls, Girls’ or ‘The Wave’, was ultimately supposed to give the action star an outright hit in the cinemas, but neither critics nor the public were overly enthusiastic about the surprising sequel. . RTL Zwei shows “Mechanic: Resurrection” on February 24, 2022 from 8:15 p.m. – but it’s not the best opportunity to get a feel for the action movie for yourself.

After 20 years on the index now unabridged with FSK 18: cult from the 90s for Tarantino fans appears completely in German for the first time!

Than Unfortunately, “Mechanic 2” only runs in the shortened version during prime time. The film, which is rather rough in places and also about an assassin, is approved by the FSK for 16 years and older and can therefore only be shown in full on television after 10 p.m. Alternatively, there is a replay (from 1:55am) on Saturday evenings, DVD and Blu-ray, and the stream. “Mechanic: Resurrection” is currently included in the Filmtastic channel on Amazon Prime Video, which you can test for completely free.

This is Mechanical: Resurrection

Arthur Bishop is back! The assassin has actually already retired, but when his nemesis Riah Crain (Sam Hazeldine) kidnaps his girlfriend Gina (Jessica Alba) one day, he has no choice but to take up arms again. If he ever wants to see Gina again, Crain will require him to travel the world to commit three murder contracts designed to look like accidents. He only has 36 hours…

Part 1 wasn’t exactly one of the great moments of Jason Statham’s career for us. Critic Florian Koch awarded 2.5 out of 5 possible stars in the CELEBTAP review for the acceptable ready-made action thriller. For “Mechanic: Resurrection” it was even enough for only 2 stars.

Aside from some isolated strong scenes, like when Bishop climbs a glass skyscraper, Dennis Gansel’s Hollywood debut is pretty mixed. The beginning is lame, the ending confusing – and in between there are many frantic action sequences and a romantic relationship that remains pure assertiveness until the end. Conclusion: Dennis Gansel can do better – and so can Jason Statham.
