Hugo Lloris is a French-born professional football goalkeeper and captain of both the French national team and his EPL club team Tottenham Hotspur. The very talented shot putter Hugo Lloris was born on 26 December 1986 in Nice, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France. It is an upper-class family, as his mother was a lawyer and his father worked as a city banker. He grew up alongside a younger brother, Gautier, who is also a professional footballer. As a teenager, Hugo Lloris excelled in both football and tennis. In fact, he was one of the best tennis players in his age group. However, he eventually gave up tennis to concentrate on football and lost his mother in 2008 in the early stages of his professional career.

Lloris started playing football at the age of 6 at CEDAC (Centre de Diffusion et d’Action Culturelle) in Cimiez, Nice. He tried out several playing positions before deciding to play goalkeeper on the advice of his coaches. At the age of 10, he entered the youth academy of the OGC Nice. Lloris steadily made his way through the team’s youth system before he was finally appointed to the team’s first squad in 2005. After an impressive debut season, he was appointed the club’s permanent goalkeeper at the start of the 2006/07 season. Lloris also had two other impressive seasons with the club, during which he attracted the attention of several top teams throughout Europe.

International Career

Just like in his club career, Hugo Lloris was also successful for the senior national team of his home country. He represented France at various youth levels before playing his first international for the senior side in a friendly match against Uruguay in November 2008. He was the goalkeeper of the team of choice for the final round of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and was appointed interim captain of the team in November 2010. On 28 February 2012, he was finally appointed captain of the team of the first choice.

Under his leadership, France reached the quarter-finals of both EURO 2012 and the 2014 World Cup but was eliminated by the subsequent champions of both tournaments. Hugo Lloris is currently married to his high school sweetheart Marine Lloris. The couple met in 2002 when they were still teenagers. 10 years after their first meeting, the duo made the bond for life in 2012 in the church of St. François-de-Paule in the French city of Nice. The couple has two children, daughters Anna-Rose and Giuliana. Marine Lloris has a university degree in law and human resources and is currently an entrepreneur. In 2016 she founded her own children’s clothing company Manège in Sucre.
