The cult country singer’s full name is Vincent Grant Gill. He was born on April 12, 1957, in Norman, Oklahoma, in the United States as the son of a father who was a judge in administrative law.

Vince has an older half-brother named Bob Coen, who comes from his mother’s previous relationship. Bob died in 1993 after a fatal car accident in 1968 in which he suffered irreversible brain damage. He was 22 years old at the time of the accident.

The singer studied at Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City, where he was a member of the popular local band Mountain Smoke. Gill played bluegrass with the band and later moved to Louisville, Kentucky, after graduating high school in 1975. While living in Louisville, he performed with the band Bluegrass Alliance, and then joined the band Boone Creek. Four years after Vince divorced his first wife, he came into contact with Amy Grant, a Christian singer, and victim of a stormy marriage. After meeting in 1993, they formed a lasting friendship and later married in March 2000, a year after Grant divorced her husband Gary Chapman.
