Kim Dotcom Bio

While he is usually known as Kim Dotcom, Kimble, or even Kim Tim Jim Vestor, he was born as Kim Schmitz on January 21, 1974, in Kiel, West Germany. His father was German and his mother Finnish.

For his secondary education, Kim attended the German Hauptschule. As a small child, he was already involved in programming and later became famous as a youthful hacker who was arrested for selling stolen phone card numbers. Although he was later found guilty, he was sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence because he was only 20 years old at the time.

Even before that, Kim Dotcom, who went by the name Kimble, was famous for claiming that he had hacked through the security systems of NASA, the Pentagon, and Citibank. He also claimed to have been involved in several other hacks.

He then moved to Hong Kong and founded Megaupload Ltd, a company that was later shut down by the U.S. Department of Justice to provide online file hosting services. It was estimated at over 175 million dollars.

This caused the company’s share price to skyrocket, and then he immediately paid off with a profit of 1.5 million euros. He traveled to Thailand but was arrested in Bangkok soon after.

He then decided to go to Hong Kong where he founded Trendax, Kimvestor Ltd, Monkey Ltd, and Data Protect Ltd in 2003 and Megaupload in 2005. At some point, Megaupload was so successful that it became one of the 15 most visited websites.

In 2009 he would soon leave Hong Kong for New Zealand. In 2012, his villa was raided by the FBI, a SWAT team, and police officers, who also shut down Megaupload.com, and in 2015 Kim Dotcom had to lose up to $67 million (£45 million) of his assets to the United States government.
