The Coronation of Prince Charles III. (74) is getting closer and closer. On May 6th the ceremony will be held in Westminster Abbey. The guest list is always hotly debated. In 1953, almost 8,300 guests attended the coronation of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II (✝96). In comparison, only a third of the number of guests at the time is expected for Charles’ coronation. But why did Charles invite so few people?
Royal expert Joe Little describes in the “A Right Royal Podcast”what he expects from Charles’ coronation and the guest list. Unlike his mother in 1953, Charles only invited 2,000 to 3,000 people. “The modern protection regulations limit the use of Westminster Abbey. The church will be closed two weeks before the ceremony, so no grand stands, galleries or royal boxes will be set up.”, explains the expert. However, he reckoned that there would be some well-known personalities who are friends with Charles and Camilla (75). The royals keep their guest list a secret. So you will only see on the day of the coronation who was really invited.
It was also speculated for a long time whether Prince Harry (38) and Duchess Meghan (41) would appear at the coronation. The royal expert not only counts on the participation of the two, but also that of their children Prince Archie (3) and Princess Lilibet (1). Archie will also celebrate his fourth birthday on Coronation Day.
