The veteran actor Matthew Modine has given us favorite movies since the 1980s. He made his big breakthrough with his role as the independently thinking Private Joker in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket (1987). Matthew Avery Modine was born in Loma Linda, California, on March 22, 1959, the youngest of 7 children of Mark Alexander and Dolores Modine (née Warner). While his mother was an accountant, his father earned his living by running drive-in movie theaters. Because of his father’s work, Modine and his family had to move often and lived in Utah for several years.

Since Modine grew up with the cinema, he was drawn to the film industry. After seeing a documentary about making Oliver, he was inspired to consider a career as an actor. Modine attended Mar Vista High School, which he graduated from in 1977.

The veteran actor is married to the love of his life, Caridad Rivera, whom he met during his early years in New York City. Caridad, who is a make-up and wardrobe stylist, was born in 1955 and comes from Puerto Rico and African roots.

Modine has revealed that once when they were dating he jumped off a cliff just to impress her. They got married on Halloween day in 1980 and have been inseparable ever since. The couple has two children together, a son named Boman Mark Rivera Modine, who works as an assistant director on the film, and a daughter named Ruby Wylder Rivera Modine, who is an actress, singer, and dancer.

Boman was born on November 8, 1985, and has directed such films as The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Whiplash (2014), and Merry Xmas (2015). Ruby was born on July 31, 1990, in Loma Linda, California. She has appeared in a number of films and television shows and is best known for her recurring role as Sierra in Showtime’s hit series Shameless. Ruby appeared in 2017 in the slasher film Happy Death Day and its sequel. Matthew Modine has David Alan Grier as the godfather of his two children.
