Canadian actress, writer and director Sarah Polley made history on Sunday night when she won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for her film Women Talking.
Polley is now one of the first-ever back-to-back female winners in this category, following Chloé Zhao’s win for Nomadland in 2021.
Polley thanked the Academy for not being “mortally offended” by the words “women” and “talk” being so close to each other in the title.
She also expressed her gratitude to her husband, David Sandomierski, and her three children and thanked the film’s producers, cast and crew. Polley was previously nominated in 2008 for her feature film Away From Her.
