Bio of Minjee Lee
Minjee is a Korean-Australian born on May 27, 1996, in Perth, Australia. Her mother Clara supported her in golf from an early age and often drove her to her training. She also helped her to mark her small daily goals with sticky notes where she could see them and be properly guided in her daily activities.
This form of well-regulated education also meant that Minjee Lee would not consider it a Herculean task to train on the golf course and practice extremely hard. By the time the Korean Aussie was 10 years old, she was already training and practicing up to 8 hours a day; something that paid off later when she began to flourish in her professional golf career.
In 2010, at the young age of 9, she pulled off the feat of being the youngest winner of the WA Amateur Open at Methodist Ladies’ College in Perth. Later, in 2012, she moved from Methodist College to Corpus Christi College to be closer to her golf course. She left the latter school in 2013.
At the age of 11, Minjee managed to attract the attention of Ritchie Smith with her impressive talents, and he later became her golf coach.
Her amateur golf career turned out to be a full success as she outshone all those with whom she competed at different times. Minjee Lee won the Western Australia Women’s Amateur in 2010, 2011 Handa Junior Masters, Western Australia Women’s Amateur, Singapore Ladies Amateur, Srixon International Junior Classic, Tasmanian Stroke Play Championship, 2012 U.S. Girls’ Junior, Tasmanian Stroke Play Championship, 2013 Australian Women’s Amateur, Western Australia Women’s Amateur, Rene Erichsen Salver, Australian Girls’ Amateur, Dunes Medal and 2014 Australian Women’s Amateur. She was also a member of the national squad of Golf Australia 2013.
On 26 February 2014, she made history by winning the Oates Victorian Open on the ALPG Tour, making her number one amateur golfer. Minjee Lee also led the Australian team that won the Espirito Santo Trophy before turning pro in September 2014.
Her professional career has not been marked by a victory drought either, as the golfer has shown that her amateur achievements have not been easy. She won a total of 4 victories on the LPGA Tour as a professional and one victory on the ALPG Tour as a professional. Minjees laurels as a professional include the Kingsmill Championship 2015, the Lotte Championship and Blue Bay LPGA victories in 2016, and the LPGA Volvik Championship, which she won on 27 May 2018.
Family – Parents
Golf is in her family’s blood; from her father Soonam Lee, a spraypainter, to her mother Clara, and her brother Minwoo, who is two years older than her, they all play golf.
Her mother, in particular, has been very supportive of her daughter, accompanying her on all her trips to golf tournaments and making sure she eats, sleeps, and plays properly. Clara Lee attributes this to a kind of “Korean kind of mothers taking care of their daughters”.
Her biggest wish is that her daughter reaches the zenith of her career, which every loving parent would wish for their children.
The family lives in Perth, Australia, where her younger brother still goes to school and plays golf. Most of the time he is with his father as Minjee Lee, and her mother is usually away for one tournament or another.
Her Height and Weight
The pretty-looking golfer is not disadvantaged in size either. Combining the length of her long, fine legs with her slim body frame, she stands at a height of 1.65 m with a bodyweight of 60 kg.
