Mychal George Thompson is a Bahamian basketball player who was born in Nassau, the Bahamas on January 30, 1955. As a teenager, he moved to the United States and settled in Miami, Florida, where he received an education.
Mychal studied at Miami Jackson Senior High School and at the University of Minnesota, where he had an outstanding academic career. Mychal was very active in basketball both in high school and college. He was part of a starting lineup nicknamed “Jackson 5” which included him, a Cuban, and three other Bahamians. After college, Mychal Thompson set the record of being the first foreign-born player to be voted number one by the Portland Blazers in the 1978 NBA draft of the Portland Blazers.
