At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, France is the second youngest country with the youngest players after Nigeria. France is also one of the most successful countries at the tournament and is pushing its way to the final. One of the youngest players in the French team is Ousmane Dembele, who plays for both the country and Spanish club Barcelona as a striker.
Ousmane Dembele’s Bio
The footballer was born on 15 May 1997 in Vernon, northern France. Like some of today’s French players, Ousmane Dembele has his roots in Africa, as his parents, Ousmane senior and Fatimata Dembele, came to France as immigrants in search of a better life. He is of Senegalese, Mauritanian, and Malian descent.
Even as a small child, Dembele had his eyes set firmly on the sports for which he was to become very famous. Therefore, unlike his siblings, he would pay little attention to school. Instead, he would go out on the streets and play football with other children.
When he was just six years old, Dembele’s mother traveled with him from Mauritania, where the family had moved, to France to meet Badou Sambagué, who was to assist him as a footballer and later as his agent.
It was not long before he could begin his career and a journey that would see him on the sidelines of the World Cup finals in the years to come.
Ousmane began his career like most other players in a youth club, Madeleine Évreux. He worked for the club from 2004 to 2009 before moving to Evreux for a year and then back to Rennes in 2010.
Dembele began his senior career in 2014 at Rennes II before moving to Rennes in 2015. It was the French footballer’s move to Borussia Dortmund in 2016 that brought him to the attention of the world. After 32 games and 2 goals in his name, the interest of the Spanish giants, Barcelona, rested on him, and in 2017 he signed a contract for 122 million dollars. By the end of the 2017/2018 season, Dembele had already seen the back of the net 4 times after 23 games.
Before he signed for Barcelona, many other clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham were looking for his signature.
Although his career is still quite young, he has already won a number of titles and awards, including the DFB Cup with Borussia Dortmund and La Liga and Copa del Rey with Barcelona. He was named UNFP Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year in 2016 and Bundesliga Newcomer of the 2017 season in 2017.
Without having to play for France in the younger teams, Ousmane Dembele received a call to the senior national team in 2016. He scored his first goal for the 2017 Blues in a match against England, and in 2018 he was called to the FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he played a key role in helping the team reach the final.
By the time he reached his 16th game for the French national team, Dembele had only two goals to his name, but that does not mean he is not very important to the team.
Once compared to Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the things Dembele cares about most, apart from football, is his family, especially his mother, Fatimata Dembélé. She is said to have such a huge influence on the player’s life that she can make him accept or refuse a deal.
He lost his father in 2017 while he was still with Dortmund, but the cause of death has not been revealed. He also has a brother, Malick Dembélé, and a sister.
Height, Weight, and Body Measurements
Looking at him from a distance, the French striker may not necessarily appear to be the tallest of men, but he has a very good size that has given him an advantage in football. He is 10 inches tall at 5 feet. He is also slim and athletically built and weighs 73 kg (161 lbs).
With a dark brown eye and black hair color, Dembele’s exact body measurements are still unknown.
