Sergio Busquets Burgos was born on 16 July 1988 in Sabadell, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, the son of Loli Burgos and Carles Busquets. Busquets grew up alongside his younger brother Aitor Busquets, who is also a professional footballer. His father, Carles Busquets, was also a professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Spanish club FC Barcelona in the 1990s. After the club won the 3rd Champions League trophy on 27 May 2009, Busquets and his father became the third father-son duo to win the Champions League at the same club.

In 1995, the then 7-year-old Sergio Busquets joined the youth team of the Catalan club CD Badia del Vallès. He then played for CEF Barberà Andalucía, UE Lleida, and UFB Jàbac Terrassa. In the summer of 2005, the talented player joined the prestigious La Masia Youth Academy in Barcelona, which marked the beginning of one of the most famous football careers in the history of football.

Thanks to his impressive form, Busquets quickly made it to the ranks of the Barcelona youth teams before finally securing a place in the senior national team. He spent two impressive seasons (2005-2006 and 2006-2007) in Barca’s U19A team before moving up to the B squad in the 2007-08 season under coach Pep Guardiola. Career

On 13 September 2008 Busquets made his La Liga debut for FC Barcelona and started with a 1-1 home game against Racing de Santander. He scored his first goal on 12 October 2008 in a 5-0 win over Basel in the UEFA Champions League group stage. In his debut season 2008-09, the club enjoyed great success, winning the La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, and the Copa del Rey. Sergio Busquets personally accepted the award for “La Liga Breakthrough Player of the Year 2009”.

In Busquets’ second season (2009-10) he earned considerably more playing time than the then first-choice midfielder of Coach Guardiola. Over the years, he has maintained this great form and has played as a defensive midfielder and central midfielder on a number of occasions.

Just like at the club level, Sergio Busquets has had a very successful career with his Spanish national team. He made his first appearance for the Spanish U-21 national team on 11 October 2008 in an away game against Switzerland. He scored the only goal of his team in the match, which ended 2-1 in favor of the hosts.

Less than 6 months later, Busquets earned his first cap for the senior national team in Spain’s international match against England in February 2009. The Spanish International is currently unmarried. However, he is in a long-term relationship with his partner Elena Galera. The duo met in 2013 and their relationship has developed further. On 8 March 2016, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Enzo Busquets. In April 2018, the couple announced on social media that they were expecting a second child.
