Simon Webbe still thinks boy bands are important these days

Are boy bands outdated? In May 2001, Simon Webbe (44), Duncan James (44), Antony Costa (41), and Lee Ryan (39) released their first song together as the band Blue. The Brits then created one top-ten hit after another. A lot has changed in the music industry since then. But that doesn’t matter to Simon – in the Promiflash interview he emphasizes how important he finds boy bands these days!

“I don’t think boy bands are outdated and I think One Direction has proven that,” he told Promiflash. The singer explains: “There will always be little girls who want to look at pretty boys.” The K-Pop scene is also becoming increasingly important. Girl groups and boy bands are important to Simon because the members can express themselves through music and live their dreams. “Boy bands will always be needed, no matter what some people say,” concludes the musician.

But how did Blue actually come about? “Some of us knew each other years before, we were already friends and that’s how the band came about,” the 44-year-old reveals. “I think I was the only one who didn’t know Antony. But I already knew Lee and Duncan. So the other three knew each other beforehand. It just felt right,” Simon explains.
