Atherton, CA – The former Bay Area mansion of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and his wife Ayesha is back on the market after selling for $31.2 million in an off-market deal last fall.
Now listed for $8.9 million, the custom-built six-bedroom home features 30-foot ceilings, heated Italian wood floors, double-sided fireplaces, a high-tech theater, wine cellar, billiards room and a seven-car garage .
Recently, the Currys have become part of a housing controversy in their town of Atherton.
The couple traded homes with another Atherton couple and objected to a proposed 348-unit housing development.
Ayesha has spoken out against the development, claiming it would destroy the city’s “charm”, and has shown her support for a petition to have it rejected.
Many residents have argued that the project would increase traffic, lower property values and attract more renters to the area.
The Currys initially purchased the home in 2015 for $5.775 million and remodeled it with new features such as a gym, spa, cabana, and waterfall.
The housing development proposal has raised questions about how Atherton will meet its mandatory housing requirements.
The city has faced community opposition to previous housing projects aimed at creating low-income housing since 2006.
