Tanner Buchanan is an American actor who is obviously one of the busiest actors of his time. He is best known for his roles on the small screen from Girl Meets World to The Fosters and The Goldbergs to Designated Survivor in more recent times.

In the latter, he plays Leo Kirkman, the teenage son of the US Cabinet member who became President Tom Kirkman, as portrayed by the legendary Kiefer Sutherland. Here is his story.

Buchanan was born on December 8, 1998, in Ottawa, Ohio, to parents Steve and Marlona Buchanan. For his kindergarten education, Buchanan was enrolled at Glandorf Elementary, where he remained until the fourth grade. He then attended the Center Stage Academy in Ottawa, where his diverse talents began to manifest. He played soccer, basketball, and baseball, but his first love was tap dancing, which he started doing at the age of 5.

His mother Marlona revealed to the media that the discipline instilled in him by tap-dancing helped him become an exceptional athlete in school, as it was thought that he would focus on the field. Tanner was also very good at music, guitar, and piano.

His school principal in Glandorf had very nice things to say about him when The Blade magazine approached him for an interview about Buchanan’s early years. Today they are big fans of him and expect his appearance in shows.

Buchanan tried to become professional with dancing and so he honed his skills at Starbound Talent in Toledo, where Wendi Davis was his dance teacher. He started competing in contests and in no time he made it to a national contest in New York where he finished second. His impressive performance attracted the attention of managers and agents. However, many of them were interested in training him as an actor rather than a dancer.

At the request of the managers, the ecstatic Marlona moved with her son to Los Angeles, where they began living in a one-room apartment. Despite the move, Marlona had little confidence in her son’s Hollywood career, but she was prepared for a surprise.

Like most aspiring actors, Buchanan began with commercials, one of the most remarkable was one for Pam cooking spray. To keep up with his education, Marlona enrolled her son in an online school, and Buchanan did a good job of running this school alongside his burgeoning acting career as appearances grew in number.

According to his “Designated Survivor” biography on the ABC website, Buchanan’s first television appearance was a pilot of “Home Grown,” but it seems the series was never picked up. Buchanan was first seen in a small role in Modern Family. He then appeared in television movies; Untitled Jeff and Jackie Filgo Project (2011) and The Real St. Nick (2012).

Buchanan’s activity increased in 2013 when he had a number of guest roles on shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Major Crimes, Ghost Ghirls, and The Goldbergs. He returned to the latter in 2018 to play another role. Also in 2013, Buchanan made his feature film debut in Jake Squared.

By 2015 Buchanan had advanced from purely guest roles to recurring roles. In the same year, he made his stage debut in The Power of Duff a der Geffen. His first recurring role that caused a sensation was Disney’s Girl Meets World. This was followed by appearances in The Fosters, Game Shakers, and Fuller House. He plays Robby Keene in the role of Robby Keene in Cobra Kai, which premiered in 2018.

Yes, he has impersonated several gay roles, but that does not automatically make him gay. Well, Buchanan himself has never openly discussed his sexuality, but as far as we know, the young lad is heterosexual.
