Kevin Roman’s murder case was listed on IMDb as “Murder Under the Friday Night Lights.”
A Killer’s Secret Play story about how the investigators solved the barbaric murder of a Texan football coach named Kevin Roman in Houston in September 2016.
It came as a shock when a Social Security check by the Houston Police Department discovered the coach’s body in his rented apartment on Sparrow Street, Houston.
Police found many .45 grenades at the crime scene, and his autopsy report stated that he had been shot 11 times with a .45 caliber firearm in the upper part of the body.
The body was in a state of decomposition at the time, suggesting he had been killed days ago.
Who killed Kevin Roman?
His best friend, LeDretric, decided to check on Kevin on September 10, 2016 and stopped by his house to see that all the lights were on, the air conditioning and the TV were on.
He smelled suspicious activity and called 911 for authorities to conduct a welfare check.
Police stormed into the house to find it, though they noticed no signs of a struggle in the apartment. They found a decomposing body of Kevin in the bedroom.
However, his phone was missing and neighbors reported that his vehicle was missing from his driveway.
The officers found evidence that a woman had been at the crime scene from undergarments taken from the home.
When the police began investigating Kevin’s personal life, they soon discovered that he dated a long line of women.
Later, his landlord stated he saw a steady stream of women arriving and leaving Kevin’s apartment.
The officer found Kevin’s missing vehicle using the GPS installed in the car by the car company. They found Kevin’s broken phone in the car.
The officers understood that the killer did not want the police to take Kevin’s phone, as it could lead the police to them.
The case was transferred to the Cold Case Division of the Houston Police Department in July 2019.
Later, digital forensic technology evolved and investigators resubmitted Kevin’s phone to the forensic analysts, which helped authorities download texts from Kevin.
Kevin was killed on September 4, 2016, as his online and mobile activities seemed to have stopped since that day.
They found that only one person seemed suspicious to have stopped contacting him since Sept. 4. It belonged to a woman, Laquinta Renee Johnson.
The cop also discovered she lived across the street from where officers found Kevin’s missing car.
The most convincing evidence, however, was that they were able to determine that Laquinta had contacted Richard Gaines, her brother, on the morning of the murder.
Richard was a registered gang member with a history of gun-related convictions.
Officers also found that Richard was arrested on September 12, 2016 for possession of a .45 caliber weapon after agreeing to an automatic car check.
Where is Laquinta Johnson now?
Laquinta was brought in for questioning on September 26, 2019, and at first stated she knew nothing about the murder.
However, she broke down and confessed to the murder when the detectives showed evidence that her brother had been captured with the murder weapon.
Laquinta already had a long criminal history, with charges of theft, unlawful use of a vehicle and assault on a family member.
She was sentenced to 45 years in prison after admitting to the first degree murder of Kevin.
According to official court records, she is serving her sentence at the Mountain View Unit in Gatesville, Texas.
According to her inmate records, her expected release date is May 2065, while she will be eligible for parole in November 2024.
