The American professional ice hockey player was born on 23 December 1986 in Mount Vernon, Washington. He grew up in Everett, north of Seattle, with three siblings Aleah, Taylor, and Tawni. After his parents’ divorce, he lived at Stanwood with his mother Tina, and attended Stanwood High School in the first year.

While in Minnesota, he attended Warroad High School, where he became known as a star player on the hockey team for three seasons. In 2003 and 2005, the budding hockey champion led the club to two Minnesota Class A titles and also made it into the state’s All-Tournament Team for three years.

He led all the players in Minnesota High School in scoring 100 points, consisting of 37 goals and 63 assists in 31 games as a senior international, a feat that earned him a place on the All-State First Team of Pioneer Press and Associated Press in 2005. He graduated as a Minnesota Mr. Hockey finalist.

His career as a hockey player really began when he graduated from high school. From 2004 to 2005, after completing his senior season with the Warriors, he transferred to the United States Hockey League (USHL) and joined the Sioux Falls Stampede for 11 games. Oshie was named 24th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in the off-season.
