During his childhood, Kroos had trouble concentrating all his energy on football at school. His father gave him a strong work ethic that made him stand out on the field. He first joined the local club Greifswalder SC, before later moving to the youth team of Hansa Rostock.

When he was 16 years old, Kroos moved with his dream to Bayern Munich, where he joined the youth team. He was held in high esteem by the team’s staff and was promoted to the senior national team of Bayern for almost a year. In the meantime, Kroos had already started to quit school due to training requirements. His hard work and sacrifice paid off, however, when the now 17-year-old made his debut for Bayern in the 2007-08 season on 26 September. Within 18 minutes of his substitution, Kroos twice assisted Miroslav Klose in a 5-0 win over Energie Cottbus.

His UEFA Cup debut was also memorable, with Kroos, who played against Red Star Belgrade again as a substitute, assisting Klose before scoring the winning goal in injury time. This season he has played for the club a total of 20 times.

Toni Kroos had a slow start to the following season. On the last day of the transfer window in January, he was sent on loan to Bayer Leverkusen for 18 months to gain much-needed experience in his first-team game. Kroos managed to establish himself as a regular in the first team at Leverkusen, making 48 appearances for the team and scoring 10 goals in the process.

In 2010 Kroos returned to Munich and forged a strong midfield partnership with his compatriot Bastian Schweinsteiger. He played an important role in the 2012-13 season, in which Bayern won a triple that included the Bundesliga, the UEFA Champions League, and the DFB Cup. The following season he maintained his performances, which prompted Real Madrid to make a change for him.

In July 2014, Real Madrid signed a contract with Kroos for an undisclosed fee estimated at around 30 million euros. He then built up an impressive midfield partnership with the Croatian Luka Modric. In the 2015-16 season, Kroos won his second Champions League trophy under the direction of Zinedine Zidane, becoming the first German player to do so with two different clubs. He continued to play regularly for the club, winning another Champions League trophy the following season as well as the La Liga title.
