Urban Meyer was born on July 10, 1964, in Toledo, Ohio in the United States of America. He was raised together with his other siblings by their parents Gisela Meyer and her husband Bud Meyer. He attended a private Catholic high school called Saint John High School in Ashtabula, Ohio. Meyer was a two-sport athlete; he played both baseball and football for his school team.

After graduating, he enrolled at the University of Cincinnati, where he played both baseball and college football as a defensive back. Meyer graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1986. After graduating, he earned a master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio State University.

Coaching Career and Record

He began his coaching career in 1985 when he was interned as a Defensive Back Coach at Saint Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He then received his first job as a college coach as a certified assistant and trained tight ends in the state of Ohio. He worked under Coach Earle Bruce. He later spent thirteen years as an assistant coach for the Illinois State football team, five years in Notre Dame, and three years in Colorado.

Urban Meyer made his breakthrough in 2001 when he became head coach of the Bowling Green Falcons soccer team. After spending two seasons with Bowling Green, Meyer took on another coaching job with Utah Utes Football in 2003. He led the team to victory at the Skyline Conference Championship and the 2005 Fiesta Bowl, and after his great successes in Utah, the University of Notre Dame and the University of Florida vied for his services. Later, Meyer accepted Florida’s offer and became head coach of the Florida Gators in 2005. He signed a contract with the Gators worth $14 million.

He is married to his college sweetheart Shelley Mather. Mather was born on December 25, 1964, in Ohio, United States. She also attended the University of Cincinnati, where she earned a nursing degree.
