The racing driver was born Valtteri Viktor Bottas on 28 August 1989 in Nastola, Finland. His father, Rauno Bottas, worked in the cleaning business, while his mother, Marianne Välimaa, was a funeral director. This means that he grew up with a sister in a family that cannot be described as wealthy.

After his training, Valtteri served in the military with the rank of Lance corporal. His short service was in line with a mandatory provision for adult men in the country.

As he was still a child, he had his eyes set on competitive sports. In this respect, he was already behind the wheel at the age of six when he started as a professional kart racer. Here he got the opportunity to sharpen his skills and achieve many victories in the years to come, and so he ended up in the Finnish national karting team.

The right break for Valtteri was after 2005 when after winning the Formula Renault European Cup and the Formula Renault Northern European Cup, he won three karting titles in 2006 and two titles in 2008. Interestingly, he won from 28 starts to 17 races.

That was in 2017 when he replaced Nico Rosberg after his resignation, and that gave Valtteri Bottas the chance to enter into a partnership with Lewis Hamilton. That year he also won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the Russian Grand Prix.

He drove for various teams including the French ART Grand Prix, Prema Powerteam in Italy, AT&T Williams, Williams F1 Team, Williams Martini Racing, and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, for whom he still drives.
