Verna Bloom, born on August 7, 1939, is an American actress who grew up in Massachusetts in a small town called Lynn. She attended Boston University, where she graduated with a BFA from the institution’s School of Fine Arts.

Before Verna Bloom blossomed on the big stage, she began, as mentioned above, to appear in plays in the mid-1960s; she only achieved fame and fortune when she played the role of the assassin Charlotte Corday in the Broadway production Marat/Sade in 1967. She achieved international fame when she acted in Clint Eastwood’s 1973 film High Plains Drifter (1973). The film was produced by Robert Daley in a film production collaboration in which the Malpaso Company and Universal Pictures merged. Verna Bloom plays the role of Sarah Belding, the wife of local hotel owner Lewis Belding (Ted Hartley).

The following year, she was the star of the film Where Have All the People Gone? Together with Kathleen Quinlan and Peter Graves. The film was a pacemaker in that it was one of the earliest science fiction films being made at the time. The theme of travelers trapped in a natural catastrophe that triggered the end of the human race was certainly a leap into new frontiers at the time. Verna Bloom played the role of Jeny, a woman saved by Steven Anders (Peter Graves) and his two sons.

Verna Bloom also played the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the film called The Last Temptation of Christ.

She also played the role of Marion Wormer in Animal House in 1978, which was a huge commercial success. The production cost of the film was $2.8 million in 1978, but after the announcement of an estimated gross amount of $141 million, astronomical profits were made.
