If there’s one thing this California-born comedian can do, it makes everyone laugh. Ali Wong has been driving comedy forward since 2005. She’s had successes, failures, and struggles like anyone else in her personal life. But as she showed in her hugely successful Netflix special, these experiences have only made her stronger.
Ali Wong wears many hats, and successfully so. She is an actress, stand-up comedian, screenwriter, and author. On both sides of her Netflix success, she has appeared on television shows such as Savages, Inside Amy Schumer, and American Housewife.

Ali Wong Career
After her graduation, Ali gritted her teeth in stand-up comedy at the Brainwash-Café. She was only 23 years old at the time. Her development led her to New York, where she performed regularly. Sometimes up to 9 sessions per night.
Her tireless comedic efforts earned her a place in Variety’s “Top 10 Comics to Watch” in 2011. Wong, whose comedy can be defined as “insanely slippery”, became known beyond the world of stand-up comedy through her efforts. She has appeared on talk shows like The Tonight Show, Chelsea Lately, and comedy television series like John Oliver’s New York Stand Up Show. She has also appeared on the 2012 and 2013 shows Are You There, Chelsea? by NBC and Hey Girl by MTV.
In her work, she has worked with celebrities such as Vanessa Redgrave, Salma Hayek, and Kelly Reilly. In her capacity as a writer, she was also involved in the creation of Fresh Off the Boat. A role she filled for three seasons for the sitcom series. Wong also acted as narrator for the character Betty Bird in the 2016 animated film.
Her biggest success to date came when Netflix released her stand-up comedy special Baby Cobra in 2016. The series features the highly pregnant Ali Wong, who masters all the pregnancy hurdles that stand in her way. She also spoke about her sexual adventures and why feminism is not for her. The series was filmed at the Neptune Theater in Seattle and released on Mother’s Day. She is also working on a sequel to her Netflix comedy special.
The comedian is also working on a book. The book will summarize experiences from her life from childhood to adulthood, she said. According to her, the experiences didn’t feel right for standing, but they were perfect for a book that people could enjoy in their own time.
Who Is Ali Wong Husband?
Wong shares a similar industry with her father-in-law, but not with her husband, Justin Hakuta. Justin’s father, Ken Hakuta, was a well-known television personality and inventor in the 1980s. He was known as “Dr. Fad” in a very successful children’s program, which was all about science and inventions. Justin is half Filipino on his mother’s side and half Japanese on his father’s side.
Wong’s husband graduated from Sidwell Friends School in Washington in 2000. He then completed a program abroad in Mexico, which culminated in 2003. He then received a Bachelor of Arts and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University and Harvard Business School.
As can be seen on his LinkedIn page, Justin has held several positions that have furthered his career. He has worked in various capacities for DIRECTV, Cargomatic Inc., and GoodRx. His most recent career change at LinkedIn is that of Vice President of Product at GoodRx.
From his social media efforts, it’s clear that Justin Hakuta is either a hermit of sorts, or just interested in his wife’s career, or both – that’s all he’s ever been concerned about.
