The Murder Case: Is Amanda Knox Innocent?

After her trial for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher, which took place in 2007, Amanda Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were sentenced to prison terms of 26 and 25 years respectively after they were found guilty. In October 2011 both Amanda and her lover were released and acquitted. However, they were recalled to another trial for the same murder, as the Italian Court of Cassation overturned their acquittals.

The duo was found guilty for the second time in February 2014. Amanda Knox received a sentence of 28.5 years, while her boyfriend was slapped at the age of 25. In the following year, 2015, her second conviction was again overturned by the Italian Supreme Court, when the defense called a witness who testified that the duo was in no way connected to the crime. Amanda and her lover were eventually released and acquitted for the murder, but Amanda’s libel of Kenyan lawyer Patrick Lumumba was upheld, and she received a three-year prison sentence and several fines.
