Fans of late-night R&B music of the 1990s, which featured slow jams with dark, lusty, and intimately frank lyrics, will find the Toronto-based duo DVSN a savior to their favorite genre. DVSN, known as “Division”, gained worldwide attention after Toronto-born and Grammy-winning rapper Drake offered them a platform to share their music with others. Read on to learn more about the duo and their successes.
Who is DVSN? Biography
For a long time, the Canadian R&B duo DVSN kept their identity unknown so that people could concentrate on their music and not on the creators. The duo was introduced to the world on OVO Sound Radio in 2015 and has since made a name for themselves both as a group and as individuals.
DVSN consists of singer Daniel Daley and producer Nineteen85. Even after they achieved a certain amount of fame, not much is known about the early life and educational history of the two men, except that Nineteen85 was born as Anthony Paul Jefferies on July 1, 1985, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. It is not clear exactly when the couple met and began working together. However, in an interview with Billboard magazine, the two men revealed that they met through music and worked together for a while before making their collaboration official and winning the hearts of fans around the world.
In September 2015 DVSN released two songs – “The Line” and “With Me” – on Soundcloud. The songs were well received, and the pair received a tremendous boost when “With Me” was played on Apple’s Radio Beats 1 during OVO Sound’s seventh radio show. This brought them a larger fan base as they released two more songs – “Too Deep” in December 2015 and “Hallucinations” in March 2016 – on SoundCloud and the iTunes Store. The second song came just days after they officially signed to Drake’s record label OVO Sound.
After securing a record deal, DVSN announced in March 2016 that they would release their debut album that same month. The album, titled Sept. 5th September, was first released exclusively on March 27th, 2016 at the iTunes Store and Apple Music, before it hit the shelves of stores and other online outlets on April 1st, 2016. More than a year after the release of her debut album, DVSN released her second work, Morning After, on October 13, 2017. The album was supported by singles like “Think About Me”, “Don’t Choose” and “Mood”.
As already mentioned, nothing is known about the private lives of the two DVSN members, as they are proud to keep things secret about them and to let the public know only things that concern their music. After the release of their last songs, in which they used a church choir several times, Daley and Nineteen85 revealed that they both grew up in Christian homes and received a lot of morals, ethics, and standards from their parents.
Facts About the R&B Duo
1. Net Worth
The DVSN is estimated to have net assets of $500,000. The duo was able to accumulate its wealth mainly through the sale of its music and the proceeds of tours. Since April 2019, DVSN has toured four times: as a headliner on the Debut Tour (2016) and Morning After Tour (2018), and as a support act on the Summer Sixteen Tour with Drake & Future (2016) and the Boy Meets World Tour with Drake (2017).
2. Charted Songs
DVSN has not yet been able to make a song of their own that made it into the charts, but after their contribution to Drake’s song “Faithful”, which also featured Pimp C, the duo was assigned a chart song. In 2016, “Faithful” reached number 19 on the US rap charts and number 36 on the US R&B/Hip Hop charts.
DVSN as a group could not win any prizes yet, although they were allowed to perform at the Soul Train Awards. However, one half of the duo, Nineteen85, has a number of awards to show for it. In 2014 and 2015, the producer won the ASCAP Music Awards in a row, and in 2017 they were nominated for three Grammys in the categories Producer of the Year (non-classical), Best Rap Song (as a songwriter), and Album of the Year (as producer).
