Nia has as her sisters Nancy Vardalos Ginakes and another one we have named Marianne. Considering that her parents had good jobs, you can say that Nia had a normal and fun childhood, so she went to college to pursue her dreams.
Nia Vardalos grew up at St. George’s School and Shaftesbury High School in Winnipeg before enrolling at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where she earned a BFA degree in drama.
After college, she began her career in 1996 with minor roles in the Drew Carey Show and Two Boys and a Girl. At the same time, Nia lent her voice to the radio adaptation of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi from 1996. Her big break as an actress came in the new millennium, in 2002, when she played the role of Toula Portokalos, a woman who had trouble finding love in the film she wrote herself, My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
