Teresa Terry, 49, has been divorced for almost 25 years from her first husband, Todd Chrisley, known as Chrisley on reality TV. The marriage lasted only seven years, but the divorce was fraught with emotions and legal fireworks.

Where Did Todd Chrisley Meet His First Wife, Teresa

Teresa Terry first met Todd Chrisley when she was just seventeen and he was nineteen.

At the time, Teresa was a senior in high school at a public school in Westminster, South Carolina. Shortly after their first meeting, the couple began dating. Talking about their early dating period, Teresa said:

“It was all very Southern, very casual, eating meals with my family and stuff like that. Todd and I would go to the movies and hang out. He was never one for big crowds. He always belonged somewhere else.”

Teresa spent a lot of time with Todd’s family as it was a meeting place for the couple and their friends after school and on weekends. The family always gave them a warm welcome and Todd’s mother, Faye, even used to cook for them.

Teresa’s Unplanned Pregnancy Examined the Intensity of their Relationship

At the age of 19, Teresa had to face the problem of early pregnancy. Life threw her a curve ball when she became pregnant with her first child by her then-boyfriend Todd Chrisley.

According to Teresa, Todd wasn’t exactly happy with the revelation after the unplanned pregnancy news. And they both decided that it would only be right if they got married. Teresa later revealed:

“Most likely, we wouldn’t have gotten married if I hadn’t been pregnant, but we did and it was a big deal.

The couple married their first daughter, Lindsey, on 17 September 1989. Fifteen months later, Teresa had another child with Todd Chrisley. On 29 August 1991, the couple married and had a son, Kyle.

Teresa’s affair with Todd was not destined to last forever.

To call the married life of Teresa and Todd Chrisley a bad one would probably be an understatement.

Although initially constrained by the responsibilities of new parenthood, the couple’s early days were somewhat happy ones. Teresa said that at first, she found moving from one house to another exhilarating.

Together with her husband Todd, who had a great talent for interior design, she also helped to look at houses and properties that the couple was renovating.

According to Teresa, Todd was a complete fool when it came to everything to do with the renovation process.

However, a marriage that existed only because of an unplanned pregnancy could only go so far. The same personality demanded perfection in Todd’s professional career and began to emerge in his marriage to Teresa. As time went on, Todd often became more and more in control of Teresa.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Teresa revealed: “Todd was very interested:

There were times when Todd would scream uncontrollably at me for no apparent reason – only to change the tact and give me the silent treatment for days and days.

He allegedly instructed her on how to present herself, behave and even raise their children.

She said, “I like to put on a ball cap, put my hair in a ponytail and go out. But with him, your hair always had to be fixed and you had to be dressed to the tens. I grew tired of being constantly corrected and I would run my mouth.

She added:

Sometimes, I think he doesn’t realize the way he is. He’s so used to being controlling and vindictive that he doesn’t even see it anymore.”

Todd’s Domestic Violence

Although it was psychologically exhausting to keep up with all of her husband Todd’s domineering demands, she was also physically abused during the later part of their seven-year marriage.

In November 1994, Teresa filed a domestic violence claim against Todd and soon afterward left his house. In this connection, Terry recalled a terrible night in December 1992 when Todd, while intoxicated, allegedly destroyed her personal property and “beat his mother” and Terry.

She also claimed that around October 1994 Todd had hit her while she was driving until she stopped and fled.

At one point, when she returned to collect some of her belongings, he allegedly “took her jewelry”. He even threw her out of the matrimonial home until he was tired of looking after their children.

In the case against Todd, Teresa went on to claim that he had used a knife and threatened to kill her. She also detailed another night three days later when he allegedly “ripped all her clothes off her body, including her underwear, and hit her with his clenched fists”.

After an argument, she fled to her neighbors and only left when Todd finally left their shared house.

Teresa Terry and Todd Chrisley’s Divorce

When her life turned into a nightmare, Teresa could only think of leaving the house where she lived with her husband and children.

She took her then three-year-old son Kyle with her. She also planned to bring up her five-year-old daughter, who was living with her paternal grandparents at the time.

I don’t remember why Lindsie was there but when I went to get her he wouldn’t let me have her,” she said. Teresa filed a criminal complaint against Todd on November 8, 1994, alleging “wrongful abduction.”

She Has Two Kids With Tom: Lindsie and Kyle

Although Teresa has kept a low profile, her children and Todd became stars of reality television shows, appearing on the show “Chrissie Knows Best”.

Her eldest daughter, Lindsey, was on five seasons of the show and was in a relationship with Will Campbell. The couple has a son, Jackson.

Her youngest son with Todd Kyle is a recovering drug addict with bipolar disorder.

He also participated in the first season of the reality show but stopped when he relapsed into drug use. As reported, he announced in 2019 that he was clean again.

Where is Teresa Terry Now?

After her divorce from Todd, she met another man and had two beautiful children with him. She now reportedly lives with her husband and children in Oklahoma, away from the spotlight that constantly surrounds her ex-husband.

Although she has always said that she does not regret her marriage to Todd because she had two wonderful children to call her own, knowing her story, we can only hope that the rest of her life will be filled with happy memories.
