Who Exactly is Travis Browne?

Travis Kuualiialoha Browne was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 17, 1982. He spent most of his teenage life in San Diego, California, where he attended high school at the Dieguito Academy and played basketball. In 2000, he was named player of the year in the Coastal North League. He continued his education at Palomar College, where he played basketball for two more years before dropping out.

In 2009, Browne began his professional MMA career at smaller venues such as King of the CageBellator Fighting Championships and the Gladiator Challenge, where he quickly rose to the top with an amazing 9-0 win streak.

He made his first appearance in March 2010 at The Ultimate Fighter: the final between Team Liddell and Team Ortiz. In the first round at exactly 4:32, Travis Browne won the fight by a technical knockout (TKO). He then fought against Cheick Congo, the veteran of the Ultimate Fighting Championship at the UFC 120.

Travis won round one on the referee’s scorecards, while Congo won round two. The fight ended in a controversial draw in the third and final round, with Congo being penalized with a point deduction for Browne’s constant clinging and holding on to Browne’s shorts.

On 28 May 2011, Travis fought Stefan Struve at UFC 130, where he won the first-round match through a Superman knockout, which earned him a Knockout of the Night bonus. Browne and Rob Broughton fought at UFC 135, with Browne winning by unanimous decision on 24 September 2011.

Travis’s performance earned him the “Submission of the Night” award on April 21, 2012, when he fought Chad Griggs at UFC 145, who defeated Chad in the first round by submission due to an arm-triangle chokehold.

On August 4, 2012, Travis met Ben Rothwell at UFC FOX 4, but he was forced to retire due to injury. Travis fought Antonio Silva at the UFC ON FX 5 event on October 5, 2012, but was forced to retire due to injury. Travis Brown experienced his first professional defeat. On April 19, 2014, at UFC on FOX 11, Travis Browne suffered another defeat in a fight with Fabricio Werdum by a unanimous decision after defeating Browne in almost all five rounds of the match. He said that at some point in the encounter he dislocated his foot with a broken hand and broken ribs. Although Travis gave Werdum and an early knockdown, it was not enough for him to win.

Browne won the first round with a technical knockout (TKO) against Brendan Schaub at UFC 181 on December 6, 2014. Travis fought Andrei Arlovski at UFC 187 on May 23, 2015, and lost the first round with a technical knockout (TKO).

At UFC Fight Night 105, Browne fought Derrick Lewis at the main event in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 19, 2017. Both were awarded for their performance in the Fight of the Night, in which Travis Derrick was injured with body punches in the first round but lost by knockout in the second round.

Travis fought Olasky Oliynyk in the UFC 213 on 18 July 2017. He lost by submission in the second round. This was not so good for his career that the president of the UFC, Dana White, said that Travis should resign in his opinion.

Travis is currently the father of two children, Kaleo and Keawe, from a previous marriage to Jenna Renee Webb. They were married in January 2015 and in July of the same year, Renee published several photographs of herself showing bruises on her body allegedly caused by Brown’s constant physical abuse.

As a result, the UFC suspended Travis from participating in their international fighting events as they launched a full investigation of the allegation. Browne was reinstated by the UFC on August 28, 2015, when her investigation returned with inconclusive evidence. On February 21, 2016, Webb and Travis were officially divorced.
