Jung Hoseok, who is known under the stage name J-Hope, certainly makes his home country South Korea proud of his achievements so far. Hoseok’s drive to constantly improve is evident in the way he pursues two music careers at once and the way his adoring fans shout his name.

Jung was born on 18 February 1994 in the South Korean metropolis of Gwangju. The Korean musician is best known for his vocal abilities, but this is not the place where he tried to start his career. Jung’s first love was dancing, and he did it with a remarkable passion.

Before all the fame he was a street dancer and a member of an underground dance team called Neuron. In fact, he had already made a name for himself in local circles. Soon his interests began to develop naturally and included sisterly skills like singing and rapping. This encouraged him to apply for an audition as a Korean idol trainee.

He was soon accepted by Big Hit Entertainment because of his talents. The entertainment company formed a boy band called BTS (Bangtan Boys) with Jung Hoseok and six other guys. Jung and his new vocal group released their first single No More Dream from their first album 2 Cool 4 Skool. The album was released in June 2013 and the group received numerous New Artist Awards for their efforts.

J-Hope and BTS have released several other award-winning albums over the years, including Dark & Wild (2014) and Wings (2016).

BTS may be a very popular vocal group in their home country South Korea and beyond. However, J-Hope’s drive means that the group’s success is not enough for him. In 2018 he started his solo career. On March 1, 2018, J-Hope released his first solo project – a mixtape called Hope World. On the same day, he also released a music video for one of the songs Daydream. This song reached the top position in the World Digital Songs Chart.

The EP reached number 63 on the Billboard 200 and eventually peaked at number 38 in the charts, making him the only solo K-pop artist to do so. The project also reached #35 on the Canadian album charts and #19 on the US top rap album charts.

The unprecedented success of J-Hope’s first solo effort earned him many personal awards. He took third place in the Emerging Artists chart and was placed at number 97 on the Artist 100 chart for the week beginning March 10th. The following week, on March 17th, he climbed to position 91.

Jung was also featured in a television movie series called Running Man in 2015.
