Aaron Gordon was born on September 16, 1995, in San Jose, California. From a very young age, Gordon played basketball with his father and siblings. He was also an athletics star who had the opportunity to compete in the 100 and 200-meter hurdles at the Junior Olympic Games but decided against it to participate in a basketball tournament.
Gordon attended Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California, where he was an outstanding athlete in both basketball and athletics. He helped the school win the first Division II State Basketball Championship in his sophomore year after averaging 16.4 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game. In his junior year, he helped the school win the title again, after averaging 22.9 points, 12.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game. His performances earned him the first of his two California Mr. Basketball titles. He won the second in his senior year, as he was also named USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year, but failed to lead his school to a third title.
