David Wade Ross was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on March 19, 1977. As the son of David Ross senior and Jackie Ross, he grew up in Tallahassee, Florida. He is the middle and only male child in the family and has Shannon and Nikki as his older and younger sisters.

Ross comes from a family of athletes and was naturally drawn to sports. His father played professional softball while his mother played basketball, but that’s not all, a couple of David Ross’ uncles played college football. Ross’s first choice for sports while attending Florida High School in Tallahassee, Florida, was baseball. He played for the Florida High School Demons baseball team.

Ross produced such amazing statistics in high school that the Los Angeles Dodgers of the MLB called him in their 1995 amateur draft. However, he ignored the tempting offer and chose college instead. He had received a scholarship to Auburn University in Alabama, where he continued to play baseball.

His time at Auburn was short-lived, however, because after his team was eliminated in the 1997 College World Series, Ross transferred to the University of Florida and played on their Florida Gators baseball team. In the Gators, Ross played in the 1998 College World Series, making him one of the few baseball players who played in the World Series with two different colleges.

The LA Dodgers of the MLB kept an eye on him all the time and made him a second offer in 1998. This time Ross accepted to give up his last NCAA season. And then came June 29, 2002, the day Ross made his Major League Baseball debut with the Dodgers.

He would play with a handful of teams for the next 15 seasons. In 2005 he played for both the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Diego Padres. His later teams included the Cincinnati Reds, the Boston Red Sox, the Atlanta Braves, and the Chicago Cubs.

His first World Championship was held in 2013 when he returned to the Sox. After retiring from professional baseball, Ross served as a special assistant to the Cubs’ baseball operations for the 2017 season, revealing that he would be coaching baseball from his son’s baseball team.

David Ross did not stay out of the spotlight immediately after his retirement. He soon made history as the first professional baseball player to compete in Dancing with the Stars. Ross and his partner, Latin American ballroom dancer Lindsay Arnold, became runners-up.
