Jeff Bridges is an American actor, singer, and producer born with entertainment in his genes. He has been nominated for an Oscar seven times and won an Oscar for his performance in Crazy Heart (2009). He is a product of the “nepotism” that was introduced to the film arena by his star agers. He is known for his roles as the alien in Starman, Against All Odds, Jagged Edge, Fearless, The Big Lebowski, Hell or High Water.
Jeff Bridges Biography
Jeffrey Leon Bridges, also known as Jeff Bridges, was born on December 4, 1949, in Los Angeles, California. His parents are well-known actors, Llyod Bridges and Dorothy Bridges (née Simpson), who is also a writer.
The light or flood actor graduated from University High School, Los Angeles, in 1967. He also studied acting at the Herbert Bergorf Studio in New York City. Jeff studied Buddhism and learned Transcendental Meditation. He meditates for half an hour before he starts working on a film set. The experienced actor served for seven years on the United States Coast Guard Reserves before turning his full attention to acting.
Jeff has said that the most important thing he learned from his father during his acting career was the joy and love with which he approached his work. And he showed the same traits during his (Jeff’s) journey into acting.
He had his first appearance on the big screen as a toddler who was only 2 years old in 1951. He played the leading role at his mother’s side in The Company She Keeps. His acting career in his later years began with his appearances in the show of his father Sea Hunt. Jeff also played several other roles on other television shows such as Lassie, In Search of America, before he got his first role in a movie on The Last Picture Show, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1972. This nomination made him one of the youngest actors ever to be nominated for an Academy Award.
His other films include the neo-noir boxing film, Fat City, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, the first remake of King Kong, the sci-fi film Tron, Blown Away, Speed. Jeff Bridges, considered perhaps the most natural and least self-confident actor on the screen to have ever lived, was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to the film industry.
After six Oscar nominations, he won his first nomination for Best Actor for the Crazy Heart in 2010, making him one of the oldest actors ever to receive an Oscar.
Music Career and Other Works
Besides acting, Jeff has a passion for music and was strongly encouraged by his mother to study piano at a very young age. He also plays many guitars. However, he said that he found it difficult to choose between music and acting and to decide whether he could do both. Eventually, he became both and released three albums with various remarkable performances. On January 1st, 2000 he released his debut album “Be Here Soon Soon”. In February 2010 he was one of the musicians who sang on the charity remake of We Are the World.
In addition, he signed a record deal with Blue Note Records/EMI Music Group in April 2010. The following year, he released his second album Jeff Bridges with producer T-Bone Burnett on August 16, 2011. His third album “Sleeping Tapes”, an album with ambient/spoken words, was released in 2015.
Besides music and acting, Jeff Bridges is also an author, photographer (as a hobby he takes stills between sets), storyteller, and philanthropist. He is co-author of The Dude and the Zen Master with Bernie Glassman in 2013 and published a book on photography entitled Pictures in 2003: Photographs by Jeff Bridges. He is the national spokesman and founder of No Kid Hungry.
Jeff Bridges Wife, Children
Jeff Bridges, like his parents, enjoys a blissful marriage relationship with his wife of over four decades. He has been married to Susan Bridges (née Geston) since June 5, 1977. Susan was born in 1953 and the duo met in 1974 at a ranch where she worked as a waitress. Jeff worked on the set of the 1975 film Rancho Deluxe and is an actress and producer known for Forbidden Zone (1980) and Cold Feet (1989), having appeared on set with her husband in over 50 works.
When he saw her for the first time, Jeff, despite black eyes and a broken nose, which he had gotten in a car accident, was entranced by her beauty and asked her for a date. But Sue, as she was affectionately called, flatly refused him and told him that given her location, a small town, they could meet some other time. And indeed, they saw each other again, and that was the beginning of a long period of bliss and happiness, though not without the frills that come with long-term commitments like marriage.
The two are parents of three grown-up daughters: Isabelle Annie (born August 1981), Jessica Lily (born June 1983), and Haley Roselouise (born October 1985). They also have a granddaughter, Grace (born March 2011) from Isabelle’s marriage to Brandon Boesch.
Jeff’s Brother: Beau Bridges
Jeff has three siblings, a younger sister, Lucinda (an artist who occasionally works as an actress), and two older brothers, Garrett (who died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome at the age of nearly 2 months) and Beau, who is also an actor. Beau acted as a surrogate father for his siblings when their father was away. Therefore the two actors have a very special bond. The siblings grew up in the Holmby Hills area in Los Angeles.
Jeff and his brother Beau, one of Hollywood’s favorite siblings, are an amazing couple. The brother of the younger Bridges was inspired by the older brother who was already in the business to come to the big screen as an actor. They got used to the movies thanks to their father’s TV series Sea Hunt (1958-1961) and the CBS anthology series The Lloyd Bridges Show (1962-1963).
Lloyd Vernet “Beau” Bridges III was born on 9 December 1941. He played basketball as a freshman at UCLA before transferring to the University of Hawaii. But you could also call this a temporary phase, as he left basketball for acting and has been playing ever since. He has starred in over 80 movies and television series, and his film credits include Norma Rae with Sally Field, Charlotte’s Web, Jerry Maguire with Tom Cruise, The Fabulous Baker Boys alongside his brother Jeff, Underdog Kids, The Millers, and others.
Among other awards, Beau is a multiple Emmy Award nominee with three wins, two Golden Globe and one Grammy Award winner.
