His career has seen many highlights from the beginning, as he has received many awards. Off the ice, Flower is happily married to his long-time girlfriend Véronique Larose, about whom you will learn more here, but let’s start with the basics first.
Marc Andre Fleury Age (Bio)
Marc Andre Fleury was born on November 28, 1984, the son of André (father) and France Fleury (mother) in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, a small town near Montreal, Canada. His family also includes his younger sister, whose name we learned to be Marylène. According to his profile, he grew up in his hometown with his faithful family whom he adores so much.
Because of his education, we do not yet know what schools he attended, what he did in his childhood, and what experiences are an integral part of a child’s formative life. Be that as it may, a look at his professional career, how he started, and how good he is, are all telltale signs of what he loved and did in his childhood. Hockey!
The Canadian started playing hockey in 2000 with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League). In the 2002-2003 hockey season, he impressed with his teammates and even won a silver medal with the Canadian junior hockey team at the Junior World Championship. At that tournament, Flower was awarded MVP at the Junior World Championships and best goalkeeper at the Junior World Championships. In addition to being named to the QMJHL’s second all-star team, he was highly praised as a player with a talent that yearns to develop.
As a result, Marc Andre Fleury was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003 NHL First Division draft as the first overall choice, making him the third goalkeeper in NHL history to be selected in a first draft.
Fleury debuted on October 10, 2003, as the youngest NHL goalkeeper at the age of 18 in a match against the Los Angeles Kings. As his game developed amid financial crises with the team, Marc Andre Fleury was sent back to play for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the QMJHL, where he did not fall short of expectations and was fielded for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League. Towards the end of the 2005-2006 season, he returned as the Penguin’s goalkeeper of choice.
In the 2007-2008 season, the Penguins lost the Stanley Cup to the Detroit Red Wings after he scored an own goal in his own goalpost. With sheer determination and a much better defense, they made a comeback for the title against the same team in the 2008-2009 season, whereupon they emerged victorious with Marc Andre Fleury, who played a key role in the win.
The champion goalkeeper remained with the team after the 2008-2009 victory and maintained his impressive goalpost form until the 2016-2017 season. With the Penguins, he won the Stanley Cup two more times in the 2015-2016 season, when they defeated the San Jose Sharks in 6 games, and in the 2016-2017 season, when they defeated the Nashville Predators in 6 games.
In the draft of the 2017 NFL Expansion, the Puckstopper was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights to win his fourth Stanley Cup title when they beat the San Jose Sharks in game 6 of their playoff series. After signing a new $21 million three-year contract with the Knights, he is sure to receive further laurels.
Wife (Véronique Larose)
Marc Andre Fleury and Véronique Larose have known each other for more than half of their lives. The two lived with their respective parents on the same street when Fleury played junior hockey. Shy at first, Fleury ran into a roadblock when he won Véronique’s love when she told him she didn’t want to go out with a hockey player, but thanks to his sister’s support, the boy prevailed and today they are man and wife.
Their wedding was celebrated on 21 July 2012 in front of almost 250 guests at Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal. They play the role of parents for their two daughters Estelle, born on 26 April 2013, and the younger Scarlett, born on 22 July 2015.
Véronique Larose, as we know her, is the co-owner of Alex et Estelle together with Catherine LaFlamme. Alex et Estelle is a clothing line aimed at children.
The mother of two has remained faithful to her husband and continues to support him. Just like her, her children are now big hockey fans and have even been given their own individually designed “Daddy” jerseys.
