He is a graduate of a community college where he started producing electronic dance tracks in his early 20s. Facts About The Music Producer
He is an LA-based DJ cum producer with roots in music, as his father earns his living as a bass player. The DJ worked with Dipo to remix You Make Me by Avicii. He also worked with Skink Records – Showtek’s label – to release a single called Bouncer in collaboration with Showtek on March 10, 2014. A few weeks later Spinnin’ Records uploaded an official music video of it on YouTube.
Ookay’s first EP entitled Ghost was released on November 7th, 2014 on Dim Mak Records, the label of Steve Aoki. According to the famous DJ, the sole purpose of producing the EP, which was virtually no trap, was to push the limits of his abilities. He actually tried to convince the fans that he was not a one-trick pony who is only capable of producing traps.
His single of March 25, 2016, with the simple title Thief, was released on the digital platform; the music video was directed by Rumena Dinevska and produced by Davin Tjen. After five days, the single was uploaded to Ookay’s personal YouTube channel. He started working on the track the year before when he returned from Coachella 2015. The thief sat at number 27 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Songs charts on the Billboard on August 19, 2016.
His next EP, Cocoon, was released on October 7, 2016, and consists of five songs in total. He participated in a tribute event for his deceased friend and fellow DJ Big Makk, who died prematurely after a car accident in August last year. Ookay performed at the event and raised a total donation of $8,000, all of which went to the family of the deceased.
Ookay’s single for Valentine’s Day 2017 was entitled Stay Forever, and later he released the single Chasing Colors in collaboration with Marshmello, with Noah Cyrus singing the lead vocals. That same year, on September 1st, he went through the Canadian independent record label Monstercat to release the future bass track Lighthouse in collaboration with the English singer-songwriter Fox Stevenson.
Lighthouse was described by Erik from EDM Sauce as “somewhat repetitive in some places”. Although the single is really good, Erik’s description denied it the chance of a higher rating.
Ookay is basically known for the music genre called Trap (EDM), in fact, his fans tend to get angry when he comes up with anything that has nothing to do with traps. This was what shaped the content of his second extended piece called Ghost, which consisted of several songs that had nothing to do with traps. According to Ookay, he wanted everyone to know that he could also be good in other genres. He also worked on Electropop and Future Bass.
In the past, the DJ has entered into various cooperations with several well-known talents. Remarkable among his partnerships is the remix of You Make Me – Avicci’s song, which he did with Dipo.
