Austin Hooper Bio

Austin Manuel Hooper was born on October 29, 1994, in San Ramon, California, as the son of his parents Michael and Vivian Hooper. Austin has a younger sister named Alexis and a brother named Justin. He attended De La Salle High School in Concord, California, where he played football as a quarterback in his first year of study. In his senior year, he played as a defensive player, taking 63 solo tackles and 27 assists, with an average of 3.3 tackles in each game. His success in high school football led to further success in college and eventually led to him becoming a professional.

College Career – NFL

Austin enrolled in college at Stanford University, where he played tight end college football and majored in psychology. As a freshman, he played 13 games, which he finished with a total of 40 receptions for 499 yards and two touchdowns. In 2015, his second year at Stanford, Austin had 34 receptions for 438 yards and six touchdowns. He became a finalist for the John Mackey Award and the first-team All-Pac-12 for 79 yards and a touchdown in a touchdown from the University of Southern California, which was then the number 6 in the country.

In 2016, after careful consultation with his family and coach David Shaw, he announced that he would be giving up his remaining two years in college to enter the 2016 NFL Draft. During preparation and training before the draft, he impressed the scouts with his performance, finishing third of all tight ends in the 400-yard sprint, fourth in the bench press, and fifth in the three-cone drill.

While preparing for the preliminary draft, Austin also attended Stanford Pro Day and performed positional exercises, which impressed the scouts and team representatives. His hard work paid off as he finished with high scores among the other tight ends for the NFL draft.

During the 2016 NFL Draft, Austin Hooper was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round and offered a four-year contract. The deal was valued at $3.21 million on May 5, 2016, with additional bonuses worth thousands of dollars. He met and joined his former teammate Levine Toilolo and Jacob Tamme in his new team. In his first game with the Atlanta Falcons, he had a 14-yard pass from his teammate Matt Ryan.

In a win against the Carolina Panthers in October, he had a touchdown with a 42-yard pass from Matt Ryan. Later in December, however, he suffered a knee injury and was relegated to the sidelines for recovery. He ended the season with a total of 19 receptions for 271 receiving hotels and three touchdowns in three starts and 14 games. In the first game of the 2017 season against the Chicago Bears, he gave two receptions for 128 receptions and scored a touchdown with 88 long yards that led to his team’s victory.
