Jo Koy is a professional stand-up comedian who has toured throughout America during his career and performed in renowned theatres and clubs. He started his career in Las Vegas. His frequent appearances as a podium guest on E!’s Late Night Show, Chelsea Lately, and the Adam Carolla Show have made him popular in the hearts of many people and further expanded his fan base and reach across the country and beyond. Learn more about him below.
Jo Koy, whose real name is Joseph Glenn Herbert, was born on June 2, 1971, into a Filipino-American family. He is professionally known as a stand-up comic.
He performs in clubs and various theaters around the country. Previously his performances were limited and he was able to perform for almost three years with just over three shows. This was a tough time for him, but his passion for the stage kept him alive. His professional career began in 1994 in a comedy club in Las Vegas. He then switched from open mic night to a regular appearance in the show Catch a Rising Star at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.
Television was always the plan when he started his career, and he wouldn’t achieve this until much later when he had his first television appearance on The Black Entertainment Television (BET) on BET’s ComicView. On this show, he appeared in two very successful seasons. On July 23, 2012, he started a podcast together with comedian and TV presenter Michael Yo. The podcast was described by both comedians as a successful and wonderful performance.
To this day he can be heard as a weekly guest on the podcast The Adam Carolla Show. This would help him to increase his reach and therefore his audience. Among the things that made him popular with his fans are numerous impressions from P.F. Chang’s Greeter to the angry black taxi driver. On March 28, 2017, his career reached a new peak when his third comedy special “Jo Koy”: Live from Seattle” was broadcast on Netflix. This is something that he described as very much and as one of the decisive moments of his career.
After 11 shows at the Neal Blaisdell Center in Honolulu were sold out and records were broken at the ShoWare Center near his hometown Seattle, Jo Koy started a new tour in 2018, which he called “Break The Mold” and which received enthusiastic reviews.
Jo Koy’s Net Worth
Jo Koy is still a rising star, as he made the breakthrough to become successful at a later point in his life. However, all his efforts over the years culminated in his growing prosperity. Due to his new contract with Netflix, his tours and performances, including open mic gigs, his net worth is estimated at a whopping $1.5 million. We expect this figure to rise in the coming years as his popularity grows.
Family – Mom, Dad, and Sisters
Josie Harrison is the name of Jos’s mother, he grew up in a Filipino-American household. When he was only ten years old, his biological father left the family and left it to his mother to take care of him and his three other siblings all by herself. For this reason, Jo always pays tribute to his Filipino mother and speaks highly of his Filipino heritage in his stand-up acts. He has two sisters whose names are Rowena Hebert and Gemma Herbert. His only brother Robert Hebert, who is older than him, happened to suffer from schizophrenia.
There was speculation that Jo Koy was in a relationship with the actress Tia Carrere, but no concrete evidence was presented. He was seen with some ladies at various times and pictures were also seen on his social media page, but Jo never confirmed whether he was actually with one of them, which makes it more difficult to actually tell the fact about his relationship status.
Jo Koy’s Wife And Son
Jo Koy is a very private celebrity when it comes to his relationships, and very little is known about this side of him. In interviews or when asked about his wife, he never says her name but uses terms like “the mother of my child” or “my ex-wife” when referring to the woman who gave birth to his child. This has been criticized by many who cannot understand why he cannot say the name of the woman, but he seems to be unimpressed and insists that it is his private life and his own business, and so he will gladly leave it at that.
Nevertheless, there have been rumors of secret marriage with speculation that his first marriage probably failed due to differential issues. With an estimated calculation between the age of his child and the time when he became famous in the comic scene, it is speculated that his relationship with the mother of his child must have ended around the time of his son’s birth. So far, Jo Koy has only one son from his former relationship. His name is Joseph and he was born on April 21, 2003.
