Born on October 27, 1963, in Cohutta, Georgia, USA, as the daughter of her parents, Stanley E. Maples, a real estate developer, and his beautiful trophy wife, Laura A. Locklear, who was also a housewife.

At a very young age, the young and athletic Maple received her high school education at Northwest Whitfield High School, where she set a record on the basketball team and was crowned Homecoming Queen after serving as class president. This was probably the birthplace of her love of the runway.
When she left high school, beautiful Marla took advantage of the experiences she had gained in school and entered other real and hard beauty contests, such as the Miss Resaca Beach Poster Girl contest, which she won in 1983. The following year, she moved up a level to compete in the Miss Georgia USA competition and took first place in the winner’s ranking. The following year she retired slightly and won the Miss Hawaiian Tropic competition in 1985.
