He plays as a striker for both his country and for the English first division club Chelsea. Giroud has come a very long way as a footballer, playing for other clubs such as Arsenal and Montpellier, and also helping France shine at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Olivier Giroud’s Bio

Giroud was born on 30 September 1986 in Chambéry, France. He grew up at the side of his older brother Romain Giroud, who influenced him to not only love football but also to play it.

As he grew up, Romain also played football, but before he went too far, he decided to stop and pursue other things. The young Olivier almost dropped out of football too, but later he decided to stay with the encouragement of his brother and other family members.

Olivier Giroud, nicknamed Chaussettes in his youth and of Italian descent, grew up in the town of Forges, where he would later play football.

Football Career

Giroud started out as a footballer at Froges when he was only six years old. That was in 1992 and he continued to play for the team until he moved to Grenoble in 1999. He remained with the club until 2005 when he was promoted to the club’s senior side.

In 2008, he moved on loan from Grenoble to Istres before signing a contract to play for Tours from 2008 to 2010 when he moved to Montpellier. Olivier later moved to England, where he played for Arsenal FC in the English Premier League.

Giroud would play 180 games for the club until 2018, scoring 73 goals before finally moving to Stanford Bridge when he was offered an 18-month contract by Chelsea FC. By the end of his first season, Olivier had scored 5 goals for the Blues after playing in 18 games.

Giroud’s club football career can only be described as successful, with a title in the Ligue 1, 4 FA Cup, 1 FA Community Shield, and a string of individual awards and honors such as the FIFA Puskás Award, which he took home in 2017.

Before being called to wear the French national colors, he was not allowed to represent the country in any of the youth national teams. Nevertheless, he was appointed to the national team in 2011 and played for the Blues national team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Olivier Giroud plays an important role in the country’s progress to the World Cup finals and has scored 31 goals for the country after 80 matches.
