Deone Bucannon is an NFL player for the Arizona Cardinals. He was first called up by the Cardinals as a safety in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, before moving on to the role of a linebacker. Prior to his NFL career, Bucannon played college football in Washington State and received an All-American selection for the first team and an All-Pac 12 selection for the first team.

Bucannon’s full name is Deone Ariel Bucannon and he was born on August 30, 1992, in Oakland, California, to Sonji and Duane Bucannon. Bucannon grew up in a military household, his father is a Marine Corps veteran, and his mother is a nurse in the U.S. Navy.

Deone grew up in several different places due to the nature of his parents’ work; he lived with his father in the sixth grade when his mother was deployed to Iraq. He said it was the hardest time of his life because they were not sure what was going on and he was grateful when she returned safely.

Deone had lived in Oakland, Hawaii, San Diego, Southern California, and then in Fairfield, where he attended Vanden High School, which was halfway between Oakland and Sacramento, California. At Vanden High School, he played soccer and led the school team into the second round of the CIF Division III playoffs in the Sac Joaquin Section of the CIF.

As a junior, Bucannon played one hundred and forty (140) tackles, 3 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 2 fumble recoveries to win the Solano County Athletic Conference Player of the Year award for the first time. He was also named All-CIF Sac Joaquin section and also won the “City Defensive Player of the Year” award.

As a senior, he had one hundred and seven tackles (including 4 bags), 2 interceptions, and 2 fumble recoveries. He also caught twenty passes for 264 yards and a touchdown in attack and won his second SCAC Defensive Player of the Year award. He was considered the 45th best security prospect in his class, and Rivals.com named him a 3-star recruit.

After high school, Deone Bucannon had several scholarship offers from various universities but decided to get involved with Washington State University, where he played college football from 2010 to 2013. He finished his college career with 384 tackles and fifteen interceptions. During his college career, he received an All-American first-team selection and a first-team All-Pac-12 and was considered one of the best security prospects for the 2014 NFL Draft.

He began playing in the NFL in 2014 after the Arizona Cardinals selected him as the 27th overall candidate in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and he signed a four-year contract with the franchise to stay with them for the next four years.

The four-year contract was worth $7.7 million and included $3.92 million in signing bonus and $6.23 million in guaranteed money. The contract also contained an option clause for a fifth year. Bucannon began its rookie season as strong security. His first career game was a season-opening game against the San Diego Chargers, in which he scored five tackles. He finished his rookie season with sixteen games and started nine of them. His records this season were eighty-three tackles, sixty-six solo tackles, two sacks, two pass throws, and a forced fumble.

Coach Bruce Arians intended to use Deone as a rotation or substitute player for strong safety in the 2015 season, but after linebacker Sean Weatherspoon injured himself in training camp, he (coach) changed his mind and appointed Bucannon as Sean’s substitute. Although he was not perfect for a linebacker, Deone Bucannon proved to be capable. He ended his second season by performing in all sixteen games, recording one hundred and twelve tackles, three sacks, two fumble recovery, three forced fumbles, three defended passes, and an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

The following season (2016) he started thirteen games and recorded ninety-one tackles and four passes before being put on reserve in December after an ankle injury. In 2017, the Cardinals took up the five-year clause in Deone’s contract. Deone Bucannon thus remained in the franchise. In May 2018 he underwent an ankle operation.

The linebacker is well built and has a height that you could mistake it for a basketball player seeing it for the first time. Deone stands at a height of 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) and weighs 102 kg or 225 lb. His other body measurements are not known.
