Born Lucas Hernandez, the French professional footballer is popularly known as Lucas Hernández or simply Lucas. Lucas currently plays for the French national team as a left defender or central defender and also for the Spanish Club Atlético Madrid.

Hernandez was part of the 23-man squad selected to represent France at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. On 16 June 2018, he played for the first time in his career at a World Cup in a match against Australia that ended in a 2-1 win for Les Bleus.

Lucas was born on 14 February 1996 in the French city of Marseille. He is descended from a father who was a player at the time of his birth. You can be sure that he was born into football and grew up with a love of football. Young Lucas showed great potential and was transferred to Spain at the tender age of four, and at the age of eleven, he joined the youth team of Atlético Madrid.

Hernandez is the first of two sons of former French footballer Jean-François Hernández, who played for Olympique de Marseille, Toulouse FC, and Sochaux-Montbéliard FC during his active career. He retired from professional football in 2002 at the age of 33. François was a central defender and played for Atlético Madrid in his prime.

Lucas’s father allegedly left his wife Laurence and his two children, so the boys were raised by their mother. There is not much information online about their mother, where she comes from, and what she does.

His only brother Theo is also a professional footballer who plays for Spanish club Real Madrid as a left-back.

League Career

In 2013, when he was still playing in the junior team, the then manager of Atlético Madrid, Diego Simeone, invited Lucas to play in La Liga against Villarreal CF, but he was benched throughout the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

He made his senior debut in April 2014 in the Segunda División B championship, where he played with the reserve side against Real Sociedad in a match that ended in a 1-0 draw. Lucas played three more games this season and at the end of the season, he signed a new contract that will keep him in the club until 2018.

Lucas Hernandez made his first-team debut in December 2014 against CE L’Hospitalet, and the game scheduled for the Copa del Rey campaign ended in a 3-0 win. He made his first appearance for the Spanish club later that month in a match against Athletic Bilbao, where he was substituted for Guilherme Siqueira. The game ended with a 4-1 away win.

In August 2015, Lucas Hernandez renewed his contract with the club, which will keep him with the Spanish team until 2019 and possibly beyond. His first appearance in the main squad was in March 2016 in the UEFA Champions League, where he replaced Diego Godín in extra time for the round of 16 against PSV Eindhoven. The Spanish side finally won 8-7 on penalties, after the game ended without a goal in both the rules and extra time. He also entered the final round as a substitute, which ended in a penalty shootout defeat to Real Madrid.

International Career

Lucas Hernandez has also played for France. His first appearance for France was with the U-16 team, and that was in 2012 when he played in a friendly against Italy that ended in a 1-1 draw. Two years later he played with the U-18 and U-19 teams.

In early 2018, he was invited by the team’s manager, Didier Deschamps, to play a friendly match against Colombia and then against Russia to play with the senior national team. In the match against Colombia, he replaced Lucas Digne in the last 14 minutes of the game. Lucas was then selected as part of the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

He made his World Cup debut on 16 June 2018 in a 2-1 win over Australia.

His Wife

Lucas is neither married nor does he have children. However, he has a girlfriend called Amelia de la Ossa Lorente.

In February 2017 Lucas was online for the wrong reason – he was arrested for domestic violence against his girlfriend. The duo suffered injuries in an apparent fight and Lorente destroyed Lucas’s car in the process.

They were both sentenced to community service, and a mutual injunction of 500 meters was issued, which Lucas signed. Amelia de la Ossa Lorente allegedly refused to sign.
