He was born in London, England, on 13 May 1986, the son of Robert Thomas Pattinson, the son of Robert and Clare Pattinson. His father Robert Snr. owned a car import business, while his mother Claire worked in a modeling agency. Robert was the youngest of three children and the only son.

Robert’s two older sisters are Victoria and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Pattinson, who is a musician. He attended Tower House School. Ironically, Robert had a shy personality as a child and it was thanks to his father that he was accepted into the Barnes Theater Club, a prestigious theater program at Harrodian School. The private school is located in Barnes, England. During his time at the Harrodian School, his first roles were in plays such as Anything Goes, As Out Town, and Tess of the d’Urbervilles.
