The 12th doctor seemed to have given a hint of his reincarnated self in the last season of the Christmas Special when he said his last words of wisdom to his soon to be reincarnated self: “Be kind”, and when he was reincarnated as the 13th doctor, he came in the role of the English actress Jodie Whittaker.

Who is Jodie Whittaker of Doctor Who?

Jodie Auckland Whittaker is her full name and she was born on June 17th, 1982 in Skelmanthorpe, West Yorkshire. Prior to her education at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, which she graduated from in 2005 with the Acting Gold Medal (highest distinction), Jodie Whittaker attended Scissett Middle School and Shelley High School.

After graduating, Whittaker began her career when she appeared in Shakespeare’s Globe in 2005 and made her debut in the play The Tempest. Since then she has appeared in theater, television, film, and radio productions. Her breakthrough came in 2006 when she played Jessie in the British comedy-drama film Venus, which also featured Vanessa Redgrave, Peter O’Toole, Richard Griffiths, and Leslie Phillips. Her role in the film earned her nominations for both the Satellite and the British Independent Film Awards.

Jodie represented Carey Mulligan, who felt uncomfortable in the 2007 production The Seagull of the Royal Court, and in the same year, she also appeared in a fundraising play at the Almeida Theatre. In 2009 she appeared in Perrier Bounty, an Irish crime comedy, and the following year, 2010, she appeared in The Kid as Jackie and also appeared on BBC’s Accused.

In 2011 Jodie Whittaker played the role of Viv in The Night Watch – a BBC adaptation of Sarah Waters’ novel – and in the cult film Attack the Block. The following year (2012) she played the lead role in Good Vibrations (musical comedy-drama). She appeared in Broadchurch as Beth Latimer (grieving mother) and also starred in the spy drama mini-series The Assets and the medical drama Trust Me on BBC One.

The BBC announced in 2017 that Whittaker would play the thirteenth Doctor, succeeding Peter Capaldi, who played the twelfth incarnation of the Doctor in the Doctor Who series. The announcement was received with mixed reactions; some thought it was a welcome development, as it will serve as a good example for younger girls, while others thought that the Doctor should be a man and that this should remain so, well, anyway, the thirteenth Doctor is here to stay with us forever.

Jodie Whittaker took over the role she had previously played in the special Christmas episode of 2017 entitled “Twice Upon a Time” when the twelfth Doctor Capaldi regenerated to his new self – a thirteenth Doctor who happened to be Whittaker. The British actress appeared in her first full series as the doctor in the 11th series, which premiered in October 2018.

Whittaker is the married US actor and writer Christian Contreras. Christian has starred in several Hollywood blockbuster movies including the thriller Zero Dark in 2012, The Fifth Estate in 2013, and the war movie Fury in 2014.

The couple met for the first time in a drama, and after being together for a while, they tied the knots in 2008. In April 2015 they welcomed their first child, a daughter. The actress lives in London, but it is not certain whether her husband also lives in London or commutes between the USA and Great Britain.
